Rectangular Tanks

Rectangular Tanks

In the design of containers made from plastics and reinforced plastics, the most efficient shape is a simple vertical cylinder, which utilises the strength properties efficiently to resist the hydrostatic pressure of the contents. The cylinder itself also has sufficient structural stiffness allowing the vessel to be handled, transported and resist wind loads. For certain applications a rectangular vessel my be required. This may be dictated by space limitations, or required for functional reasons in a particular process. Large flat areas must be stiffened and hollow FRP stiffeners may be used. The rectangular tank and rectangular cross section clarifiers shown are examples of how flat panels may be stiffened.
